16.12.2025Acceptance and exchange of Bulgarian lev banknotes and coins starting January 1, 2026 at Municipal Bank Branches and Business Centres
In connection with the introduction of the euro as the official currency of the Republic of Bulgaria, Municipal Bank informs its customers about the organization for accepting and exchanging banknotes and coins from lev to euro as follows:
- Municipal Bank will provide free of charge exchange of banknotes and coins from lev to euro at the official exchange rate from January 1, 2026 until June 30, 2026, in accordance with the requirements of the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria (ZVERB).
- Unlimited quantities of coins will be accepted, provided they are pre-sorted.
- For amounts exceeding BGN 30,000 in a single transaction, the exchange of banknotes and coins from lev to euro will remain free of charge during the specified period but will require a request submitted at least 3 business days in advance.
Important for Sofia: Customers wishing to exchange more than 500 pre-sorted coins can do so at the branch of the Municipal Bank branch at Sofia 1000, 88 Knyaginya Maria Luiza Blvd.
Municipal Bank recommends to its customers to plan their exchange in advance for larger amounts to ensure the fastest and most convenient service.
