11.05.2015Municipal Bank Presents History of Sofia Museum with Coin Dedicated to Sofia

The History of Sofia Museum acquired a unique silver coin minted by Municipal Bank. It was dedicated to Sofia and was a kind of recognition of the important cultural and historical heritage of the millennial city. The coin was presented to the director of the History of Sofia Museum, Nadezhda Kirova-Yovcheva, PhD, by Sasho Tchakalski, Chairman of the Management Board and Executive Director of Municipal Bank and Nikolay Kolev, Member of the Management Board and Executive Director of Municipal Bank.

“Municipal Bank created a special limited series of coins in honour of the capital, with the emblematic title “Sofia Through the Ages”. Municipal Bank proudly donates the first coin of the series to the History of Sofia Museum. We believe that in this way, the coin will not only become a part of the treasury of the museum, but also deservedly take its rightful place in the history of our city,” Sasho Tchakalski, Chairman of the Management Board and Executive Director of Municipal Bank said.

The image of Tyche, symbol of prosperity and patron of ancient Serdica, is on the obverse of the coin. The inscription curves along the oval of the coin, reading the Latin maxim “Crede, quod habes, et habes” and its translation into Bulgarian „Вярвай, че имаш и ще имаш“ (“Believe that you have and you will have.”). The name of the city in Greek and Bulgarian has also been written – respectively “CEPΔΩN” and „София“.

Municipal Bank’s silver coin with partial gold plating will be the latest addition to the numismatic fund of the History of Sofia Museum. Upon presentation it was exhibited along with museum coins from the time of Emperor Caracalla with images of deities including: Demeter, Apollo Medicus, Heracles.

The Tyche Coin is the first of a series of three commemorative coins of Municipal Bank. The coin has a limited mintage of 1000 copies worldwide. The next coin is scheduled to appear in September 2015 with images of Kaloyan and his wife Desislava. The third will be a fact in 2016 and depict modern day Sofia.
